Name: Elliot Erwitt
Born on: July 26, 1928 (age 93 years)
Style
Erwitt's photography is based on a graphic sensibility that instinctively organizes the formal elements of scene to create a personalized comment on the subject.I personally prefer a more simple version of my photos, but they still come out great. But I think there is also merit in the way that Erwitt works.
Philosophy
Elliott Erwitt is best known for his portraiture and her unique ability to exaggerate and enhance the characteristics of her subjects. Iconic figures spanning celebrity, creative, and intellectual circles have sought to work with Erwitt in admiration of her interpretive perspective.
Influences
According to ipfh.org, “Erwitt served as a photographer's assistant in the 1950s in the United States Army while stationed in France and Germany. He was influenced by meeting the famous photographers Edward Steichen, Robert Capa and Roy Stryker.” He was intending to become a painter. After taking a night class in photography however, he quickly became very fond of it.
Compare and Contrast
Just like us, Elliot also did mask’s. Instead of choosing the focus point of the image, he colors the things in the background. I use the things that the eye would see first. What he does is makes the lesser looked at part of the photo ans adds color. In this photo he colors in the woman’s eyes.
Personal Artist Statement
Instead of using the the mask filter to color in just the subjects eyes, I filled the image with color in the main subject. The photo has no other color other than the main subject to copy his style, but in the opposite way.
